Teacher Appreciation Doors
This is my very favorite volunteer project and I look forward to it every year. Being able to take my digital design to finished product and problem solving along the way has been a very satisfying way to challenge myself and try out new art techniques all at once. Its all been a great learning experience in thanks of people who do so much for my family and my community.
Every year my kid's elementary school has a very loved tradition of decorating each teacher's door for teacher appreciation week near the end of the school year. Classroom teachers typically have their class role on them, while teachers such as gifted, art, music, and the media center have more room for art since they see too many kids to list them all.
I like to sign up for my children’s classroom teacher/teachers and their gifted teacher. I also sign up for the itinerant art and music teacher and the media center. I usually sign up for around 5 doors each year. Some years I have help from another parent for the classroom teacher. I usually enlist my Mom to come help hang the doors with packing tape.
I have used many tools and materials over the years. I like to sketch out my idea in Procreate first, then I use a projector to trace the design onto the trimmed paper. From there I have used spray paint, tempura paint sticks, tape, acrylic paint pens, crayon, my color laser printer and Silhouette Cameo to bring the designs to life.
